Canada Day ... in Red

Today's colour is red...and given that it is Canada Day and we are all about red here, it's most appropriate.

We're not doing anything "special" for Canada Day.  No large get togethers or barbecues. We'll have dinner as we always do but we won't head out to watch fireworks.  That was always the "must do" when we were children...to head off to the local park for the fireworks.  I remember calling it "firecracker day" or "sparkler day" as opposed to Canada Day because we were always given sparklers to twirl around as the evening came to an end.  All the children in our part of the neighbourhood standing on our lawn writing our names in the air and gasping and shrieking as the sparkler burned to it's end.  If I think hard enough I can even smell one burning.

I love red and always have.  Red shoes, red handbags, red nail polish.  I loved candy apples as a child (I'd still eat one if given the opportunity!).  There is something about red that just makes me feel like I'm on fire!

Cherry kool aid slushies...there are two, I'll share!

the other side of the monkey bars in the local park

around the house you'll see that I like to decorate with splashes of red

I love my red dining room wall!

love my Ikea sofa!

front door wreath

and in the garden

What is summer without red fruit?  I will have some watermelon on hand for dinner!

and a favourite book of my children (and me!) when they were little that sums up exactly how I feel about red...

Happy Canada Day to all my Canadian friends!  Enjoy, and be safe!

  3. Happy Canada Day, Sherry! Very fun red celebrations here...I could dive into the screen with a spoon for those berries...mmm... So nice to catch up with you here. Thanks so much of your many sweet comments at my place--great to see you. As you saw, it's been a bit busy on this end with creative projects, so I've been slow to visit. ;o) Happy Weekend ((HUGS))

  6. And to you! I remember it being called "Dominion Day", which might have just been because that's how my Gram referred to it, but I think alot of Manitobans called it that for a very long time. Probably some still do. It's kind of like Remembrance Day, which was referred to as "Armistace Day", another thing I always heard from my Gram.

  7. Absolutely Lelainia, we did call it Dominion Day for many, many years until someone in government decided we needed to call it Canada Day.

  13. Happy C Day to you. In fact I have a Canadian flag pin on right now - it was given to me in 2004 as I flew from Helsinki to Heathrow Airport with the Canadian Frisbee Championship Team. One of the cutest players gave me the pen and I have been in love with Canada ever since! Been purging today and my butt is dragging in a good way. Hugs
